Delray's Circle On the Square Food & Wine Event
By Paul Noble

"Sip Sample Savor"said the invites to Delray's Circle on the Square Food & Wine Event, jointly presented by the Old School Square and the Bank of America Private Bank.

Based on the amount of people who showed up, the fun they seemed to have,
and the money they appeared to have raised not only with tickets but with their
live and silent auction, it will probably become an annual event. There was
music, acrobatic dancers, and a silent auction where people could bid on
everything from a weekend stay at the Boca Resort to Miami Heat Tickets.

And, of course, there was  food, which was the main reason most people came there. Indisputably the best offering  was the Cugini Grille, an upscale American grill in Delray Beach. I had dinner there a month ago and was bowled over by how good it was that time. This time again they didn't disappoint, offering a unique Artichoke Francaise (hearts of artichoke fried in a lemon butter wine sauce) which they serve as an appetizer at their restaurant over pasta.

Which brings us to pasta. And more pasta. Almost all of the dozen restaurants there offered some forms of carbs, although one standout was Bice Ristorante with their penne pasta. One taste of this made it obvious why it's one of the most popular restaurants not only in Delray but in Palm Beach. Raffael, the owner was there, and he told me there are 40 other Bice restaurants all over the world including 4 in Florida, and that the restaurants were named for his grandmother, Beatrice, whose eviscerated name is indeed Bice.

City Oyster served rock shrimp over Thai noodles Pad Thai and the House of Siam also served a Pad Thai chicken dish. And after more pasta-style dishes it was almost a relief to go over to the desert area and have some great cappuccino chocolate from Delray's own Foxy's ice cream, along with some of the catering firm MC's Personal Chefs spectacular bananas in enough rum sauce to make it almost dangerous to drive back home to Palm Beach.
